On board our Jeep, If the day is clear, the trip starts from Funchal to Poiso at 1 412m, always with its beautiful bay in the background.
– Visit Pico do Areiro, the third-highest peak on the island, 1811 m above sea level. There are usually very dramatic mountain views and sometimes we’re above the clouds! We will take some time to discover the area, explore some of the hidden gems.
Pico do Arieiro is part of the dramatic mountain scenery of the interior of Madeira
Miradouro do Juncal – Situated on Madeira’s third highest peak (Pico Areeiro), Juncal viewpoint is one of the best sunrise spot in Madeira – To access this viewpoint, you will need to take a short walk on foot – Uneven terrain – Not advisable for people with mobility difficulties – optional
The stopping time at Pico Areiro depends on the group.
Make sure you don’t forget your camera as you could get some really unique photos from above the clouds.
After Pico Areeiro we’ll start our slow descend through the panoramic road to the Nuns valley (this road is only open with good weather conditions).
– Miradouro do Paredão (1500m) – It offers visitors excellent panoramic views over the municipality of Funchal and the emblematic parish of Curral das Freiras
– Eira do Serrado (1095m) – offers an unobstructed view of the parish of Curral das Freiras, surrounded by the grandeur of Madeira’s characteristic green mountains.
– Pico dos Barcelos – The large valley that serves as a natural amphitheatre for Funchal, on one side, and the calm sea that bathes the south coast of Madeira, on the other: this is what you can see from the Pico dos Barcelos Viewpoint.
Located in the parish of Santo António – home to the ‘Andorinha’ football club, which kick-started Cristiano Ronaldo’s career – this observatory is at an altitude of 355 metres and is ideally positioned for visitors to enjoy peaceful views of Funchal’s urban landscape, particularly its bay.
Pico dos Barcelos Viewpoint also allows you, on days when the visibility is good, to see the Desertas Islands, a group of three small volcanic islands: Ilhéu Chão, Deserta Grande and Bugio. This is, of course, a magnificent and memorable panoramic view.
The duration of the tour depends on the weather conditions and the stopping time at each viewpoint.
* Be sure to bring your camera, these views are some of the most breath taking you’ll ever see!
